Georgetown Issues 'Rocky's Report' for March 14

March 14, 2012 - Hi everyone. Hope you are enjoying these early days of spring. A few updates for you from the past few weeks.

On Friday night on the 3500 block of Prospect Street, one of the R.D. officers we pay to monitor the neighborhood arrested an individual who was under age 21 for a DWI. The individual was driving a van, hit the mirror of a parked vehicle and failed to stop. The R.D. officer was patrolling Prospect Street, witnessed this and made the arrest. Upon learning this we quickly checked our records, which show that this person is not a Georgetown student.

We only had one Hotline call over the weekend. On Saturday night, we received a Hotline call regarding noise on 35th Street. SNAP responded and there was no noise and no activity found. We try to follow up with Hotline calls to tell callers we investigated their call and inform them about what we found. In this case, the caller did not identify themselves so we were not able to follow up.

The previous weekend also saw very few calls for noise. The Friday before last we had a Hotline call at 12:13 a.m. regarding a house on 36th Street, on what we call Magis Row, which are students living in university-owned townhomes. We rarely have noise complaints in this area. SNAP responded right away and found 8-12 people gathered, but they did not hear noise from the street. The party was registered with the university, and the students were advised to keep their noise down. On Saturday of that same weekend, there was a call to 911 for noise in Burleith. MPD responded. These were not Georgetown students.

With the spring weather staying around, I’d remind you all to be sure to lock doors. Nice weather means more people are out and about and it’s a good practice to always lock your doors.

Until next week – be safe!
