May 3, 2012 – Hi everyone. I hope you are having a good week.
Last Friday our students celebrated Georgetown Day. This was a daylong event centered on campus celebrating the end of the semester. We heard from some of our neighbors with concerns about gatherings of students and noise. We had extra resources out in the neighborhoods in anticipation of this day, including our DPS officers, our SNAP teams and RD officers. They proactively broke up student parties in West Georgetown on Friday, including one particularly loud house party on 36th Street during the evening where MPD was also present.
The next big event we will celebrate on campus will be Commencement 2012 to be held the weekend of May 19. Thousands of visitors will come to campus and to the Georgetown neighborhood that weekend. We are busy with our preparations for the nine commencement ceremonies that take place in addition to many other events and celebrations.
If you have any concerns about our preparations or the impact these activities may have on the neighborhood, please let us know. We are working hard to prepare for this weekend, and to make it a great celebration for all of our graduates and their guests. We welcome your input.
That’s all for this week. Until next week – be safe!
