Anonymous Tip Leads to Four Arrests in Burglary
The car chase and crash was first reported as a carjacking on Sept. 17.
An anonymous resident's call about a suspicious vehicle eventually led to a car crash at Wisconsin Avenue and Q Street, NW and four arrests on Sept. 17, according to police.
The call originated in Glover Park and the caller reported a car that appeared to be "casing" the area around the 3900 block of W Street, NW. When police approached the vehicle, it drove away, according to Lt. John Hedgecock.
Hedgecock said the car managed to evade police initially, but then crashed the car, a tan Nissan Altima with temporary Maryland plates, at Wisconsin Avenue and Q Street, "due to very erratic driving."
All four suspects fled the vehicle, but police were able to eventually locate and arrest all four.
Officers discovered the "proceeds of a crime" in the back of the car the suspects were driving.
The personal property was linked to a home in Glover Park, which had been burglarized.
Hedgecock said he appreciated the anonymous person taking two minutes to report something suspicious, "We couldn't have done it without that caller."
