Business Closings Yield Discounts for Georgetown Shoppers

As chain retailers leave Georgetown, shoppers get deep discounts.

The most recent string of retailers to announce they are closing up shop in Georgetown are two chain stores: and . Each is now offering shoppers deep discounts on their remaining inventory.

Club Monaco, , will be leaving its current location at 3235 M St. The store is offering discounts of 30 percent off all merchandise. Store employees said the chain would likely relocate within Georgetown, but it is not clear where at this point. The location being vacated by Club Monaco will be filled by AllSaints Spitalfields, a high-end British retailer.

A "For Lease" sign has been discreetly displayed at the Reiss store at 1254 Wisconsin Ave. since February. Last week the retailer sent an email to local customers announcing its upcoming departure.

Reiss is hosting a "Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Event" March 16 from 6-9 p.m. as a farewell to D.C. Loyal customers can attend an evening of cocktails, shopping and a live auction to benefit the cancer charity. Attendees will also receive a special 10 percent discount on the Spring 2011 collection.
