Car Crashes Into Georgetown Home at 28th and P Streets

Cave-in teams from DC Fire and EMS were securing the basement just before midnight

A car crashed into a home on 28th Street, just north of P Street NW in Georgetown just after 8 p.m. Thursday evening.

DC Fire and EMS arrived around 8:30 p.m. and was still on the scene at 11 p.m. according to an officer not officially authorized to speak to reporters. A special operations cave-in task force was on the scene at 1503 28th St. NW securing the bottom until of a three story building.

DC Fire and EMS spray painted an orange line across a crack in the building to observe any shifting in the foundation. The line quickly became diagonal as crews worked to shore up the building, showing the shift in the brick work of the historic home.

According, to tenants who wished not to be a named, a car crashed into the structure just after 8 p.m. and the impact could be felt by those on the second floor at the time.

A DCAlert that went out just before 11 p.m. Thursday indicated that the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs was on the scene and requesting Red Cross assistance for a displacement from the home. Fire officials said there were three units in the building with tenants.

The Georgetown Dish reports that the car that crashed into the building had diplomatic plates from Bhutan, but fire officials on the scene were unable to confirm the make, model or plates of the car at the time.

By the time I arrived the car was already out of the home. Did you happen to take a photo last night when you were out walking the dog or on your way home? You can upload it directly to the story or email it to me shaun@patch.com -SC
