Celebrate the Cherry Blossoms in Georgetown

Georgetown merchants offer a variety of cherry blossom-themed discounts and food items.

Even though the warm weather brought out the cherry blossom blooms a bit early around the Tidal Basin, the National Cherry Blossom Festival began March 20 and continues through April 27. Georgetown has its own contributions — from cherry treats to blossom art — for this, the 100-year anniversary of the gift of trees from Tokyo to Washington, D.C.

The Georgetown Business Improvement District put together an exhaustive list of cherry blossom offerings in Georgetown.

Here are a few as described by the BID, but you can check out the full list here:

Dumbarton Oaks  provides a welcomed alternative to the Tidal Basin for cherry blossom viewing. The 19th century Federal-style mansion boasts over 10 acres of gardens and pathways lined with cherry blossom trees.

Sprinkles Cupcakes  is sweetening up spring with a seasonal Cherry Blossom cupcake available daily throughout the season. Sprinkles' festive cupcake is made with sweet pureed cherries in both the cake and frosting, and topped with a special centennial sugar decoration.

The Old Print Gallery presents BLOSSOM DC, a special spring exhibition of artwork celebrating the beauty and youthful energy of spring's blossoms. The show features a large number of prints from local DC artists as well as a selection of works by NY contemporary artists and several early 20th century printmakers. BLOSSOM DC opens on March 16 with a nighttime reception at the gallery from 5-8 p.m. and runs through May 11, 2012.
