Thousands of D.C. area residents will gather this weekend to remember and reflect on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Passing of the Peace Rose Petal Ceremony

Where: Wilson Building, Grand Foyer, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave. NW DC*

When: Noon

Children from across the District will assemble at Hains Point to participate in a discussion about the values of peace in their communities, the United States and abroad.  Following the exercise, the children will participate in a ceremony spreading white rose petals on the Potomac as a symbol of peace, to honor the lives lost during the 9/11 attacks.

Pentagon Memorial Fund Fundraiser

Where: Murphy’s Grand Irish Pub, 713 King Street, Alexandria.

When: Saturday, September 10, 2 p.m. – midnight.

Cost:  There is a $10 admission fee at the door, a portion of which will be donated to PMF.

The event will offer an hors d’oeuvre buffet from 2 – 7 p.m; and a cash bar, door prizes, and silent and live auctions from 2 p.m. - midnight.

Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial 5k

Where: DoubleTree Crystal City, 300 Army Navy Drive, Arlington.

When: Saturday, September 10. 6 p.m.

Cost: Race registration is filled, but spectators are welcome.

Arlington 9/11 Tribute

Where: Air Force Memorial, 1 Air Force Memorial Drive, Arlington.

When: Saturday, September 10, 7:30 p.m.

Cost: Free

A concert featuring music by the Army Brass Quintet, Wakefield High School Choir and Macedonia Baptist musicians; the Arlington County combined Color Guard; and members of the 9/11 Victims’ Families Foundation.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, EVENTS

Official Pentagon Memorial 10 Year Commemoration

Where: Pentagon Memorial, 1 Rotary Road on the Pentagon Reservation in Arlington.

When: Sunday, September 11, 9:30 a.m.

Cost: Free

The Pentagon will have an invite-only ceremony for families of 9/11 victims. The Pentagon Memorial will re-open to the general public following the ceremony.

Arlington Historical Society's 9/11 Commemoration Event

Where: Hume School, 1805 South Arlington Ridge Road, Arlington.

When:  Sunday, September 11, 9:37 a.m.

Cost: Free

The Arlington Historical Society will ring the bell 184 times, once for each victim of the 9/11 Pentagon attack. The Arlington Historical Museum, located in the Hume School, will also have a special Pentagon exhibit on display.

Ten Years Later: A Day of Remembrance and Reflection

When: Sunday, Sept. 11 11 a.m. to noon

Where: , 3115 P St NW, Washington, DC 20007

A service of remembrance and reflection in which Rev. Camille Cook will preach on “God’s Bricks, Our Mortar,” assisted by Military Chaplain Rev. Mark Worrell.  The GPC Choir will present special music accompanied by a brass and percussion ensemble.  All those who attend the service will receive a complimentary copy of Erik Kolbell’s book The God of Second Chances.

Arlington Bell Ringing

Where: Constitution Bicentennial Gardens, North George Mason Drive and Wilson Boulevard, Arlington.

When: Sunday, September 11, Noon

Cost: Free

The Bluemont Civic Association is sponsoring the ringing of a vintage Pennsylvania church bell to commemorate 9/11.

9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance

When: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Where: Freedom Plaza- 1331 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC

HandsOn Greater DC Cares and Serve DC - the Mayor’s Office of Volunteerism will commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11 by hosting Tribute to Service – Honoring the Victims, Survivors, and Heroes of 9/11 at Freedom Plaza. Attendees will have the opportunity to paint a 9/11 Remembrance Mural, assemble educational kits for students, write honor cards to military families, participate in our volunteer fair featuring 30 nonprofits from Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia, and participate in our tribute program featuring regional and national speakers, local choirs, poetry, and a dance troupe

A Concert for Hope

When: Sunday, Sept. 11 7:30–9 pm

Where: Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Washington, D.C.

A program of poetry, reading, reflections, and classical and popular music. Speakers including President Barack Obama and performing artists, including Alan Jackson, Patti LaBelle,  Denyce Graves and the Marine Chamber Orchestra
