Cyclists, Runners Receive Blessings

Tires and sneakers got a holy boost Sunday in Georgetown

Whether you biked, ran, walked or jogged past Fletcher's Cover Saturday, you might have noticed the Blessing of the Bicycles. Dumbarton United Methodist Church's Rev. Mary K. Totty gave a nondenominational blessing to cyclists at the spot near the C&O and the Capital Crescent Trails.

Both cyclists and runners stopped by to receive a blessing, many offering tales of harrowing accidents, according to a note from the church.

Prior to the event, Rev. Totty said that the goal was to "raise awareness of bicyclists in the area and celebrate the health benefits and enjoyment people get from bicycles."
