The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m. in DC, as well as the surrounding areas.

Temperatures are expected to rise to the mid-to-high 90s, but high humidity will make it feel like a sweltering 100 degrees.

Recommended ways to combat extreme heat include drinking lots of fluids, staying in the shade or indoors in air conditioning and taking frequent breaks from strenuous work.

DC offers cooling centers during extreme heat. Residents can call 311 for detailed information about cooling center locations.

Additionally, DC Alerts advises residents to check in on sensitive groups to include: 

• Infants and young children
• People aged 65 or older
• People who have a mental illness
• Those who are physically ill, especially with heart disease or high blood pressure
