The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood watch for DC beginning at noon Friday and lasting for much of the evening.
NWS says "low-lying areas could experience heavier flooding from these storms due to heavy rainfall and the accumulated rainfall from the last few days."
In DC, showers and possibly a thunderstorm could hit the area after 2 p.m. Highs will be near 89.
Several more showers are expected to happen in intervals throughout the evening and overnight hours, NWS says.
The weather service predicts rainfall could amount to one to two inches per hour can be expected from afternoon and evening storms. That amount could cause local rivers, streams or creeks to overflow and flood surrounding low-lying areas, NWS says.
The watch ends at 11 p.m. Friday.
A chance of storms continues throughout the weekend, but will bring some heat relief: Temperatures in DC will hover around 77 on Saturday and 86 on Sunday.
