Georgetown Alum Competes in Olympics Today
A Georgetown Law graduate will represent Haiti in the triple jump.
Samyr Laine will compete in the Olympic men's triple jump final Thursday.
Laine graduated from Georgetown University's School of Law in 2010 and is representing Haiti at the London 2012 Olympic games.
"We are proud of all of our student and alumni athletes who have competed in the Olympic Games, extraordinary men and women who exemplify Georgetown's commitment to excellence both on the field and in the classroom," wrote Georgetown President John J. DeGioia on his Facebook page.
Laine is 10th in the standings after the qualifying round in which he jumped 16.81 meters. American Christian Taylor is number one going into the final round, having jumped 17.21 meters. The medal round is at 2:20 p.m. EST.
"I'm going there as a proud Hoya," Laine told the University, according to the Georgetown alumni news site.
