Georgetown Dog Wins Hound Group in National Dog Show
"Jewel" the American Foxhound will compete for Best in Show at the National Dog Show sponsored by Purina, which will air Thursday on NBC.
An American Foxhound from Georgetown won the top prize in the Hound Group at the National Dog Show presented by Purina this weekend.
Jewel is a two-year-old American Foxhound whose owner is Ellen Charles, of Georgetown, according to a press release. Jewel is one of the seven dogs competing for Best In Show in the competition.
Jewel’s handler is Lisa Miller of Mechanicsville, Md.
You can watch Jewel (who’s registered name is GCH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box) on NBC Thursday right after the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. There is a second airing Friday from 8 – 10 p.m. on NBC.
Update - 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22: Jewel did not win the top prize at the National Dog Show this morning. That prize went to a Wire Fox Terrier named Sky. We wish Jewel the best in her future competitions, and we will welcome her home to Georgetown with open arms... and lots of dog treats.

Four years ago, took in an abandoned American Foxhound/Otterhound cross (according to DNA; but phenotype is pure AF, tricolor), Marly Jean, 47 lbs. At age 71, I had volunteered 10 yrs with local humane society, had dogs, but never a hound. What an education! From age 2 1/2, she has been squirrel obsessed. The dog park is her piece of heaven, her nose has touched every square inch of every tree, up to about the 8-ft mark, especially from sept-feb. She has lots of hangups, probaby got lost from a hunting camp, and has required lots of patience, but can be extremely affectionate and protective. She hardly ever sits, but stands - more horse than dog.
