Georgetown Heating Plant Auction 'Industry Meeting' Scheduled Oct. 25

Jones, Lang, LaSalle is marketing the surplus federal government property, the West Heating Plant.

Industry representatives interested in throwing their hats in the ring for the West Heating Plant site, will have an opportunity to learn more about the auction at an Oct. 25 meeting.

The General Services Administration, which is overseeing the sale of the excess federal property on 29th Street just north of K Street, NW, secured the services of Jones, Lang, LaSalle for marketing the property.

The property description on the brokerage company's specialized website for the West Heating Plant (www.georgetownheatingplant.com) boasts:

According to the event notice, in addition to a GSA representative, someone from the D.C. Office of Planning will also be present.

Office of Planning Director Harriet Tregoning recently urged the General Services Administration to advise potential bidders of the West Heating Plant site's comprehensive plan, which includes a large swath of green space that may not be available for commercial or residential development.

The OP letter reflected the efforts of Georgetown civic groups and Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans, who have been lobbying for zoning restrictions and possibly a set-aside of park land on the property.

Though the West Heating Plant is likely to go to auction in November, GSA has yet to set the sale date, minimum bid amount, bid increment or the closing date for the auction.
