Georgetown Post Office Spared from Closure
The United States Postal Service will review 3,700 locations nation-wide for possible closure.
Georgetown's Post Office is not on the list of D.C. locations under consideration for closure by the United States Postal Service (USPS).
There are 19 locations in the District of Columbia on the USPS "Expanded Access study list." Many of the offices are located in federal government buildings like the U.S. Capitol or the State Department.
The agency plans to study approximately 3,700 retail offices to measure demand and need for any given branch.
“Our customer’s habits have made it clear that they no longer require a physical post office to conduct most of their postal business,” said Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe in a statement released Tuesday.
"The initial study is 60-days -120-days for entire project," wrote Freda Sauter is a spokesperson for the USPS in an email to Patch.
