Get Out: Wags n' Whiskers, History & Cupcakes in Georgetown and More

The weekend is only one day away! How are you going to spend it?

 

1. Wags n' Whiskers

When/Where: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Shirlington Village

Why Go: It's the fifth annual pet-centric event in Shirlington featuring pet adoptions, pet contests, demonstrations, exhibitions from more than 35 local animal-oriented businesses, pet portraits, live music and children's activities.

Price: Free!

2. Georgetown Walking Tour with Cupcakes

When/Where: The tour begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Dumbarton House on the corner of Q and 27th streets in northwest Washington.

Why Go: Exercise, history and cupcakes — what more could you ask for? Enjoy a guided history tour of Georgetown and cupcake stops along the way at Sprinkles, Baked & Wired, and of course Georgetown Cupcake.

Price: $20 (includes cupcakes)

3. Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival featuring 'Canadian Bacon'

When/Where: Dusk (about 8 p.m.) Friday at Gateway Park in Rosslyn.

Why Go: It's the final outdoor show of this summer's election-themed movie season. John Candy, Rhea Pearlman, Jim Belushi and Alan Alda star in a movie about a president who gets talked in to starting a cold war with Canada to boost his opinion poll ratings.

Price: Free!

4. DCPS Beautification Day Events

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Hardy Middle School, 1819 35th St. NW, and Stoddert Elementary, 4001 Calvert St. NW.

Why Go: Help get your local schools in tip-top shape for when children return Monday.

Price: Free!

5. The Legwarmers (1980s tribute band)

When/Where: 8 p.m. (doors) and 9 p.m. (show) Friday and Saturday at the State Theatre, 220 N. Washington St., Falls Church

Why Go: Per the solicitation, come out and party like it's 1985!

Price: $18
