Guy Mason Dog Park Re-Opens

After closing for a renovation, the dog park is unofficially open once again.

The Guy Mason dog park, which closed in October for renovations, quietly re-opened some time in the last few weeks. Dogs and owners have been enjoying the upgrade thanks to D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the Dogs of Guy Mason Alliance (DOGMA).

According to an email sent to the DOGMA group: "There is more seating, new mulch, a taller fence. There are still a few kinks to work out, but it's a great space for your pup to get some exercise and socialize."

Earlier this year, users of the 6,400-square-foot ad hoc dog park at Guy Mason Recreation Center organized as the Dogs of Guy Mason Alliance (DOGMA) to formally register the dog park. DPR approved the application.

According to the DOGMA email, Friendship Hospital for Animals donated poop bags for use in the park.

Though the park is now an official DPR facility, DOGMA members and park users are asked to help keep the space clean.

If you are interested in helping, you can contact Amanda MacKaye at godoggo@rocketmail.com or Adriana Cordero at designcordero@aol.com.

This spring the group hopes to hold an opening celebration for canines and people alike.
