Hyde-Addison Gym and Media Center Plans in the Works

The School Improvement Team met with DC's Department of General Services to discuss the project.

Members of the Hyde-Addison Elementary School community, including parents and staff, met last week with DC's Department of General Services (DGS) to discuss plans for a new gym and media center at the Georgetown public elementary school.

The FY 2013 budget included $7.69 million for a modernization project and new addition at Hyde-Addison, 3219 O St. NW.

Over the summer, the modernization project replaced old windows and installed central air and heat.

Now the Local School Advisory Team (LSAT) and the School Improvement Team (SIT) are advancing discussions and plans to add a gym and media center to the Georgetown school.

Parent organizations have been collecting feedback recently about what parents and students would want to see in a library and a gym.

An online survey posted over the summer asked questions like, "What kind of activities would you like to do in a new gym?" and "Describe your favorite place to read."

"We are at the very beginning stage of discussions about the modernization project at Hyde-Addison," Darrell Pressley, a spokesperson for DGS, told Patch in an interview.

Pressley said last week's meeting with the SIT was the first step for his agency to learn about what the community would like to see built.

"There's not even an architect brought on board," yet Pressley said.

Patch will continue to follow this project as more detailed plans emerge.
