Interim Chancellor for DC Public Schools (DCPS) Kaya Henderson named Daniel Shea the interim principal for Hardy Middle School in a letter sent home to parents (see PDF) Monday, as first reported by local blog the Georgetown Dish.

Henderson praised Shea's experience as an administrator at both the high school and middle school level in MD and his role as as head of scheduling for DCPS high schools and middle schools. Henderson said his background would make him the right fit to continue to steer Hardy for the remainder of the school year.

Parents raised concerns previously about scheduling issues and a perceived lack of experience at the middle school level among Hardy administrators.

Less than two weeks ago, that Principal Dana Nerenberg would leave her position at Hardy and return to a full-time role at Hyde-Addison elementary; she had been managing both schools since the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year.

The Interim Chancellor informed parents that administrators would organize a formal introduction for Shea to Hardy parents in the near future.
