Lights, Camera, Fashion Pop-up Benefits Georgetown Non-profit

Stone Soup Films is hosting a pop-up store of donated designer labels in empty Wisconsin Avenue storefront.

Over 1,000 articles of donated designer clothing will line the walls of the Lights, Camera, Fashion pop-up store in Georgetown, Feb. 21-23, to benefit local non-profit Stone Soup Films.

The pop-up store at 1533 Wisconsin Ave., NW, the former home of Piccolo Piggies, opens on Thursday for ticket-holders, and will be open to the public Friday and Saturday.

Stone Soup Films, 1070 Thomas Jefferson St. NW, is a Georgetown-based non-profit organization that films, edits and produces marketing tools for other non-profits in the area.

“We have all these great individual donors and all these great people involved.” Liz Norton, executive director for Stone Soup Films, told Patch. “We’re trying to figure out a way to expand our donor base and increase our visibility.”

Locals and volunteers donated clothing to the pop-up store. Items for sale range from an $8,000 Reem Acra gown to a $10 sweater.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit Stone Soup Films and will allow them to help other non-profits. The organization has received numerous applications from local groups that do not have the capacity or the funds to professionally promote their business themselves.

“Having marketing and materials that allowed us to capture our mission in a way we could not possibly capture was great,” said Jee Pae, chief development officer for Urban Alliance, a D.C. based non-profit helping high school seniors gain work experience.

All volunteers, camera operators, graphic designers and editors, are highly experienced in their own fields and bring their expertise to the production line, said Norton. The name itself, Stone Soup, refers to the child’s parable when hungry people donated one item each to the small communal bowl of soup, which magically fed all who were hungry.

“Everybody altogether makes these films that could not be done individually,” added Norton.

Stone Soup Films is selling $25 tickets for eager participants to gain early admittance and snag deals before the event is open to the public.
