Local Church Marks Anniversary of Gay Inclusion

Dumbarton United Methodist Church first publicly welcomed gay, lesbian and bisexual worshippers 25 years ago.

will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the congregation's decision to publicly welcome gay and lesbian worshippers into its fold.

The church has invited Massachusetts-based minister Sean Delmore to deliver the guest sermon at the 11 a.m. worship service on Feb. 19.

"As a transgender man, I reject the dualistic idea of living with one foot in the world and one foot in the church," Delmore said. "Instead, I focus on the uniting, transforming power of grace to move the marginalized to the center in blessed community.”

A one-hour adult education hour is scheduled for 10 a.m. Feb. 19. The topic will explore the church's history of LGBT advocacy. The public is invited to attend both events.
