Macaron Bee Opens Today

Han and Deborah Kim will open their confection shop on Wisconsin Avenue

Macaron Bee opens Saturday at 1669 Wisconsin Ave. The small shop on Bookhill will sell macarons, confectioneries made of sweet meringue.

Owners Han and Deborah Kim met at the Culinary Institute of America in New York and moved to the D.C. just under two years ago.

The Macaron Bee had its Georgetown debutante moment at a January Advisory Neighborhood Commission meeting when the owners' initial concept of serving the colorful treats out a folding front window brought on a 40-minute debate. They ultimately nixed the window idea.

The small space will be no more than 200 square feet and will offer no seating; just a long display case, brimming with colorful hand-made macarons.

When asked in February about the name for their new store, Deborah said they chose Macaron Bee because, "We are like a bee. Always busy."

The grand opening is Saturday at 11 a.m.
