Max's Best Ice Cream and Landlords in Discussions

Max's ice cream was issued a termination notice in May.

Max's Best Ice Cream is currently having "productive discussions" with the landlords of the property at 2416 Wisconsin Ave. NW where the popular neighborhood ice cream shop has been located for 20 years. The landlords had previously issued a lease termination that would have gone into effect at the end of June.

"Max and the Landlord are in productive discussions and have agreed that there are not to be any statements issued to the press until the discussions have been concluded.  At that time a joint statement will be issued by the parties," according to a statement issued by the counsel for the landlords Glenn Bonard.

The landlords, Barbara and Gail Bassin, first issued a statement last month indicating they stood by their right and their decision to end Max's Best Ice Cream's lease and to allow neighboring small business,

Community members have rallied around Max's Ice Cream, from Stoddert Elementary students rallying outside the shop after school to social media campaigns and petitions to keep the local favorite in business.

It is unclear what "productive" means and whether Max Keshani, the owner of Max's Best Ice Cream, would be able to keep his busines open through the busy summer season or if he could even get a new annual lease.
