UPDATED 5:43 p.m.
A woman was fatally struck by a train at the Ballston Metro Station just before 11:30 a.m. today.
"The female appears to have intentionally placed herself in the path of an arriving inbound Orange Line train," according to a press release from WMATA.
Service was suspended between the East Falls Church and Virginia Square metro stations for hours as police investigated. Service has resumed to normal as of 4 p.m., according to WMATA.
