Michaels and Homegoods Mockingly Called 'Threat to Public Safety'

Someone on SeeClickFix has a sense of humor.

An ususual alert popped up on SeeClickFix Tuesday morning—instead of the usual report of a missing sign or out-of-order parking meter, someone posted a "tenant alert." The alert was about Michaels, HomeGoods and Marshalls coming to Georgetown.

The alert reads:

"As a concerned Georgetown resident, I'm writing to inform you that there is a Michael [sic], Home goods [sic] and Marshals [sic] planned to take up occupancy in this location. Please send a crew out immediately to fix this as this is not only a threat to public safety but an obvious assault to the neighborhood. To think they teased us with an Eatly. Seriously who makes these decisions?"

And apparently whomever checks SeeClickFix for DC's 311 department either did not notice the sarcasm or chose to ignore it.

It was marked as "acknowledged" and given the standard response:

"Thank you for submitting your request. The tracking number is 13-00043896. You will receive a separate email when your request has been closed by the servicing agency."

Of course DC 311 has no control over whom the owners of the Georgetown Park Mall choose to rent to, so the user "Stop Neighborhood Blight" will probably be disappointed when his or her request is closed without resolution.

What do you think? Is the arrival of places like Michaels, HomeGoods and Marshalls an "assault" on Georgetown?

I was under the impression we were going to get a smaller Bloomingdales or a smaller nieman Marcus. Yes I do think that Marshall's will bring down the atmosphere of Georgetown. Michaels is an art store, kids always need art supplies. Home goods is wonderful for picking up a small something. I thing that a Target would have been a lit better than a Marshall's.
