Moms Talk Q&A: Keeping Busy on Rainy Days

Sound-off with our Moms Council about this week's hot topic: keeping kids happy and busy on rainy days at home.

This week in Moms Talk, our Moms Council of experts and smart moms and dads take your questions, give advice and share solutions.

Georgetown Patch invites you and your circle of friends to help build a community of support for mothers and their families right here in Georgetown.

Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about local neighborhood schools, the best pediatricians, 24-hour pharmacies and the thousands of other issues that arise while raising children.

Moms Talk will also be the place to drop in for a talk about the latest parenting hot topic. Do you know of local moms raising their children in the Tiger Mother's way and is it the best way? Where can we get information on local flu shot clinics for children? How can we help our children's schools weather their budget cutbacks?

So grab a cup of coffee and settle in as we start the conversation today: What are your secret weapons for keeping kids happy and busy when it's rainy outside?

This is a tough one. I've been so excited that the nice weather is finally here that I've completely "deleted" rain, cold, snow and sleet from my brain! I think the hardest part about being indoors is keeping kids away from anything electronic (TV, computer, video games) and entertained with something educational or productive. My daughter is too young for any of these things but I try to be creative when we're stuck indoors. She's at the stage where we can build "forts" with pillows and blankets and she's very much amused by that. We also live in an apartment building so we spend a lot of time walking in the lobby and visiting with neighbors and other kids. I'm working on getting management to lend parents the party room, on weekdays, so the kids can all play with each other...sort of like an indoor playground.

Rainy days with a teenager means sleeping in if possible or being awakened and bring in a foul mood! The scary rainy days are when she is out driving.,,,
