Neam's Market Unlikely to Return

Petition recently called for the family to bring back their high-end market.

Despite a recent petition calling for Neam's Market return to its former home at Wisconsin Avenue and P Street in Georgetown, the Neam family is content to operate as landlords rather than proprietors.

"Nobody from the Neam family has any intention of opening a market in Georgetown," G.T. Neam told Patch in an interview Monday.

Neam's was known for its well-stocked selection of fine food products, like wine, caviar and cheeses, and its above-par customer service. Notable patrons included many of the grande dames of Georgetown, even Elizabeth Taylor during her brief time living in the neighborhood.

The family handed over the reigns of the store's daily operations in the late 80s and officially closed in 2000. The Neam family now leases its former market property to Marvelous Market.
