New Crossing Guard Coming to Wisconsin Avenue

Hyde-Addison Elementary School succeeded in securing an additional crossing guard for the Georgetown school.

Starting today a new crossing guard will be stationed at Wisconsin Avenue and P Street in Georgetown, thanks to the work of parents and staff from Hyde-Addison Elementary School.

The school has another crossing guard on O Street to help direct pick-up and drop-off traffic at the Georgetown school.

In October a group of parents including Alison Jia, Anna Fuhrman and Ali Muhammad, organized volunteers to monitor the crosswalks where O and P Street meet Wisconsin Avenue. Over the course of several days parents counted the number of people crossing during peak school crossing hours — between 7:45 and 8:45 am and 3 to 4 p.m.

Parent Alison Jia said it was "great news" to hear that a crossing guard would be coming to the busy intersection.

Principal Dana Nerenberg congratulated and thanked parents for their hard work.
