Nike Headed to Former Barnes and Noble Space

This will be Nike's first non-factory store in the region.

Barnes and Noble shuttered its doors at the end of 2011 and now several sources are reporting that Nike will fill the space at M and Thomas Jefferson Streets.

Nike is negotiating the terms of its lease with Vornado realty, which owns the building at 3040 M St. according to the Washington Post's Jonathan O'Connell.

"Nike representatives met with D.C. officials at the annual retail convention of the International Council of Shopping Centers in Las Vegas last spring to express their interest in opening more D.C. stores," wrote O'Connell.

Neighbors have lamented the loss of the book store, which offered respite from extreme weather for tired shoppers. Barnes and Noble still has a location in downtown D.C. at 555 12th St., NW.
