Palin: "There may not be a recession in Georgetown..."

In a speech given in Indianola, Iowa, Palin lumps Georgetown in with other wealthy Washington, DC 'suburbs.'

Sarah Palin took aim at the Northern Va. suburbs during a speech in Indianola, Iowa, saying D.C.'s wealthy suburbs do not understand how the recession is affecting people across the country.

“No, they don’t feel the same urgency that we do. But why should they? For them business is good; business is very good,” Palin said.

She lumped Georgetown in, suggesting it was a wealthy suburban D.C. county.

"There may not be a recession in Georgetown, but there is in the rest of America,” she said.

U.S. Senate candidate Timothy M. Kaine pushed back against Palin, though he did not mention the Georgetown flub.

“Those families and those businesses are counting on their leaders in Washington to find common ground on solutions that will create jobs and long-term economic stability,” Kaine said, acccording to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “Instead, Sarah Palin is offering divisive rhetoric that only seeks to further polarize our country at a time when the partisanship in Washington is already at an all-time high.”
