Tuesday Morning Update: Pepco Outages Affect Georgetown, Burleith, Glover Park
Approximately 3,300 District-based PEPCO customers were without power Tuesday morning, due to Hurricane Sandy.

Just under 1,000 Pepco customers in Georgetown, Glover Park, Burleith and elsewhere in Northwest Washington, D.C. were experiencing power outages Tuesday morning.
About 3,300 District-based Pepco customers were reporting outages just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and another 13,000 in Montgomery County had the same fate.
Glover Park is one of many neighborhoods with above ground power lines and residents there were facing power outages as of Monday night in the midst of Hurricane Sandy.
Monday Pepco's Twitter account tweeted at Patch about restoration estimates, "We won't have any firm estimates until the storm passes, but we will work as quickly as possible to restore your power."
All power companies have called in back-up crews from other states, but there are no estimates as to when power will be restored.
“Pepco has committed all its resources to Hurricane Sandy. We already are actively working this storm so we can restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” said Thomas H. Graham, President, Pepco Region, in a press release early Monday afternoon. “However, based on the unprecedented damage that is expected, the restoration period may extend more than a week.”
According to a Pepco blog post from Monday, the utility company has some We 600 internal and contract line personnel and an additional 300 tree removal personnel ready for "quick mobilization." Additionally Pepco has asked for "a total of 3,700 outside crew members through the utility mutual assistance process."
Hurricane Sandy officially made landfall in southern New Jersey around 8 p.m. Monday and morphed into Post-Tropical Storm Sandy, but the change in name meant little about the strength of the storm.
Rain and strong winds continued through the night and into Tuesday morning.
