It's windy and wet down by the Potomac River in Georgetown - but not flooded. Good news!

Lots of branches down on the P Street sidewalk.

Some of the flower planters hanging from the lamp posts up and down M Street and Wisconsin took a beating during the storm.

Hurricane Irene swept through the D.C. region Saturday and into Sunday, leaving behind a slew of downed trees and branches. During the storm a few brave people ventured out on M Street.

The nearly destroyed 3324 Dent Place is the oldest structure in that block. Despite a built date of "1941" that appears in DC's Real Property Assessment Database, the structure appears on late 19th century plat maps housed in the Peabody Room. As the lone wood frame home on that block it was a real survivor. I imagine the house will be razed. What an ignoble ending.

Thanks for the insight, Jerry! It sounds like it was ill-cared for already, but it does seem shame to have a historic structure see its end like that.
