Marcus Beal, a Pepco spokesman, told Patch that a crew was dispatched to work on the manhole. He said there was smoking that resulted from a burnt cable below ground. There were no outages associated with the incident and the estimated restoration time is 6 p.m. Monday, according to Beal.

Smoke and odors from the manhole resulted in the brief evacuation of Georgetown Cupcake until D.C. Fire and EMS determined that the smoke was related to the PEPCO manhole issue.
