Politics & Prose Joins World Book Night Tuesday

On World Book Night, more than half a million books will be given away across the country. Local independent bookstore Politics & Prose is taking part in this ambitious endeavor.

World Book Night is Tuesday, April 23, and more than half a million books will be given away, free-of-charge, across the country by more than 25,000 volunteers, according to a news release from independent Chevy Chase, DC, bookstore Politics & Prose Bookstore

For the second year, Politics & Prose will participate in World Book Night, and nearly 90 book givers will be picking up specially printed paperback books from Politics & Prose to give away to people in their communities on Tuesday night. Politics & Prose also will participate as a book giver on World Book Night.

"We’re excited to be part of World Book Night because its mission—to promote the joy of reading within local communities—is one that is at the core of who we are as a business," Susan Coll, director of programming and events for Politics & Prose, said in a statement.

The mission of World Book Night is to seek out those without the means or access to printed books, according to the news release.

"The final list of more than 30 giveaway books was selected by an independent panel of booksellers and librarians, and the books are made possible due to generosity of the authors, publishers and book manufacturing companies. The list represents all genres—from literary fiction and mystery to non-fiction and young adult books—and includes one title in Spanish," the release added.
