Apparently, being a Washington Nationals fan is the toughest road to walk in sports, according new rankings from The Business Journal.
The 'On Numbers' series has ranked teams in a range of sports according to how difficult they are to support based on their winning (or losing) records. On Numbers reports:
Baseball’s Washington Nationals Washington Nationals have the dubious distinction of ranking first in our overall standings, which means they’re the toughest team to root for in any major sport.
The Nats came out on top among 122 pro teams, judged on the "principle that a consistent loser is the hardest team to root for."
Surely there are harder things than being a Nats fan:
1) Logarithms.
2) Eating okra.
3) Holidays with the in-laws.
4) Watching the Orioles.
5) Not sweating during the D.C. summers.

This seems way out-of-whack, as a team that has only been in town for six years is pretty easy to support with low expectations. It's not, for example as tough as being a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, or a Cleveland Browns fan, or an L.A. Clippers fan.
Other things tougher, though? Being a Red Line rider, for one.

i think it's open for debate. rooting for a consistent loser is not necessarily harder than rooting for a great team that lets you down every year in the playoffs, like the caps. i think expectations play a large part in the difficulty of rooting for a team. as a wizards and redskins fan, i can't say which disappoints me more. i am most disappointed by kanye west's fame for being a no talent, preppy thief.

Being an Orioles fan is definitely worse. This team teases you with hope for a week, two weeks, maybe half a season like in 2005, then there's nothing left to go to Camden Yards for besides quality beverages and getting on the Jumbotron.

Being a Cubs fan. (It's number 3 on this list, but I'd rank it above being a Nats fan.)
