Top Spots in Georgetown for Watching Fireworks

We asked the (local) experts for their go-to spots in Georgetown.

The 2011 annual Independence Day Celebration fireworks display draws thousands to the National Mall. If you want to stay local, avoid the tourists and still catch the show, we've got a few great suggestions for where to take your blanket for the evening.

-Key Bridge: For those in the West Village, wander over to the small park by the Key Bridge or the pedestrian path on the bridge. There you can take in the flashes of color whilst standing, suspended in mid-air.

-Kennedy Center: Watch the fireworks from the Kennedy Center Terrace where you'll have great views of the monuments; no tickets required!

-Georgetown Waterfront Park: Plop down on some grass or stand on the boardwalk on the waterfront to catch the rockets red glare above the Potomac River.

-Holy Rood Cemetery: This Wisconsin Avenue spot attracts families from Burleith and Glover Park.

We have enjoyed watching the fireworks from the north end of Key Bridge, but last night the police were not allowing that. Any ideas on why that was all of a sudden?
