Video: Old Footage of 82 Streetcar Line
Footage of the 82 Streetcar Line, which ran from Eckington in DC through College Park, Md. and terminated in Branchville, Md.
A video recently posted to YouTube shows the 82 Streetcar line traveling from the District into Maryland and serves as a reminder that streetcars are returning to DC, possibly this year.
The streetcar system in DC was dismantled in 1962, but the District Department of Transportation and Mayor Vincent Gray have said the H Street Line should be running by the end of 2013.

Additionally, DDOT is looking at other possible lines to expand the system throughout the city once again. In June the agency released a request for information, receiving 20 responses from firms from around the world by September.
The possible 22-mile network could include a line running to Georgetown.
Just this week DDOT issued a notice for a public meeting to discuss preferred routes and modes of transportation from Union Station to the Georgetown waterfront.
Of course the new streetcars will be sleeker and more modern than the one in the video. But it lets you imagine what it would be like to park or drive or walk next to a streetcar as it once was a normal part of the DC landscape.
What do you think about the streetcar program? Did you live in DC when the streetcar ran before 1962? What was it like?
