Watch: Bikeshare Installation in Georgetown

Two new Capital Bikeshare stations appeared on Georgetown sidewalks late last week.

Capital Bikeshare added two new stations in Georgetown last week, one at Wisconsin Avenue and O Street and another on Water Street below the freeway.

The entire installation process takes less than an hour, in part because there is no construction or excavation necessary.

Bikeshare is operated by Alta a company that "designs, deploys, and manages bicycle share programs and systems worldwide." Capital Bikeshare is funded through a partnership between the District Department of Transportation, the City of Alexandria, Va. and Arlington County, Va.

A truck pulls up with prefabricated sections of the dock, which are stored at a warehouse in the District prior to installation. Then four Alta employees work together to fit the pieces together, raise the solar tower charger, install the battery and test each bike dock.

Georgetown now has seven Bikeshare stations.
