What Should Replace Garrett's in Georgetown?

This 30-year M Street veteran closed last May.

Let's call this a modern spin on community planning—Patch's version of a charette, a digital drawing board where all ideas are on the table.

Each week we'll present a new vacant building and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use. Forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules and all the other zoning jargon that puts people most to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

We've written about several shuttered spaces over the past several weeks including Furin's, Morso, Griffin Market and P Street Frames.

This week, we're turning our attention to Garrett's Restaurant & Railroad Tavern, which closed after more than 30 years of business on M Street in Georgetown. The restaurant first opened on Jan. 27, 1979. It closed May 30, 2011.

Do you think another restaurant should fill the empty business? A coffee shop? A clothing boutique? How about another cupcake bakery?

Let us know in the comments section.

We want a place to grab a quick lunch that doesn't break the bank! (Kinda like Garretts!)

What was your go-to lunch item there? I had only ever been there for drinks after work, never for lunch though!
