What Should Replace the Dog Shop?

The dog-focused pet supply store at 1625 Wisconsin Ave. NW closed late last year.

 

Let's call this a modern spin on community planning—Patch's version of a charette, a digital drawing board where all ideas are on the table.

From time to time we'll present a new vacant building and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use. Forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules and all the other zoning jargon.

If you had your way, what would you like to see here? What would be the best use for the community?

The Dog Shop brought the space at 1625 Wisconsin Ave. NW, to life with its frequent weekend dog adoption events for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. The shop sold beds, grooming tools, clothing, toys, treats and food for pets. It also offered grooming and training services. It announced its closing in December and the owner is now operating a mobile dog grooming business, The Dirty Dog Farm.

What would you like to see in its place? A bookshop? Another pet store?

I really miss the dog shop. Going to petco is not the same

One of our Facebook commenters, who also missed the Dog Shop because she would take her cat there for nail clippings, said she'd like to see a diner or a tea house replace it. "I'd like another diner to replace the Georgetown Cafe that closed ages ago, or a tea house - ENGLISH tea, not Japanese like Teaism." What do you think? -Shaun
