Save Your Back while Shoveling Snow

If you have a history of heart trouble or back problems, you may want to pay a neighbor’s teenager to shovel for you. Here are some additional snow shoveling safety tips from the National Safety Council:

  • Pace yourself. Shoveling snow is a workout, so don’t overdo it by lifting too much snow at once.
  • Shove-l the snow. Push the snow out of the way when you can, instead of lifting it up and throwing it.
  • If you do have to lift it up, make sure you’re lifting with your legs, not with your back.
  • Wear waterproof clothes, especially waterproof and boots, and wear clothes to keep you warm.
