Where Your Water Goes: Part I

The Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant in D.C. treats wastewater from D.C. Montgomery and Prince George's counties in MD and Fairfax and Loudoun counties in VA.

On a rainy day in early November, Patch took a tour of the Blue Plains facility and enjoyed a roundtable discussion with DC Water General Manager George Hawkins.

The Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant serves 500,000 residential, commercial and governmental customers in D.C. and collects and treats wastewater for 1.6 million customers from surrounding counties in MD and VA.

This is the first in a small series of articles and videos that feature the all-important, but little-noticed, work of the Blue Plains plant.
