Wisconsin Avenue and K Street Intersection Poised for a New Name

Friends of Georgetown Waterfront Park have proposed renaming the intersection after deceased U.S. Sen. Charles Percy.

The entrance of the new Georgetown Waterfront Park could get a new name soon.

The Georgetown Metropolitan and the Georgetown Dish report that City Councilman Jack Evans is trying to rename the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and K Street after former U.S. Sen. Charles Percy, who died last fall, just days after the park was completed.

The Metropolitan reported:

"While Senator, Percy took a keen interest in the state of the Georgetown waterfront. He ultimately chaired the Georgetown Waterfront Commission that was the primary force that lead to the reinvention of the formerly industrial strip as a wonderful public park."

The city council will have to approve the proposal, originally introduced by the the Friends of Georgetown Waterfront Park, before the intersection is officially renamed.

The Advisory Neighborhood Commission is scheduled to discuss the issue at its meeting on Monday.
