Wisconsin Avenue Bikeshare Station Moving Again

The station used to be on a bridge over the C&O Canal and was recently moved to a location in the street.

The Bikeshare station on Wisconsin Avenue south of M Street will be moving, again.

The 23-bike station's final (or so they say) resting place will be the sidewalk in front of Grace Church.

The Bikeshare was parked on the sidewalk at 1045 Wisconsin Ave. NW and moved slightly south into the street at 1041 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Three metered parking spaces were removed to fit the bike station.

According to the Georgetown Advisory Neighborhood Commission, the loss of parking spaces from the station's location in the street was a nuisance for local businesses as well as Grace Church.

The ANC received, "a lot of feedback, all of it negative," said Commissioner Bill Starrels.

The District Department of Transportation initially relocated the station to the street because of a new condo being built along the canal near the station location. DDOT moved the station to the street because the agency did not believe there was enough space on the sidewalk to allow for safe pedestrian traffic.

But, according to Starrels, DDOT remeasured the sidewalk and, finding it to be the same width as the previous sidewalk location, agreed to move the station onto the sidewalk against the wall closest to the church.

According to Starrels, DDOT is helping with the expense of moving the station and anticipates the move in three or four weeks.
