Work in Arlington? Have a Say in Bikeshare Locations

The Arlington County Department of Environment Services is seeking public feedback on proposed stations and suggestions for other locations.

If you live in Georgetown and are eagerly awaiting the expansion of Bikeshare to Arlington, you can have a say in where new bikeshare stations should be located. (Perhaps next to your office?)

The Arlington County Department of Environment Services is holding a public meeting to received feedback on proposed stations and suggestions for other locations. The meeting is scheduled for June 27 at 7 p.m. at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. in the meeting rooms Cherry/Dogwood.

So far nearly 30 stations are already proposed for the Rosslyn, Courthouse, Clarendon, Virginia Square, and Ballston areas. The locations were identified based on a variety of factors including population and employment density, bike and transit facilities, and destinations.

Criteria for station locations include:

  • 4+ hours of direct sunlight daily;
  • at least 11’ x 32’ of space;
  • between 2 - 5 blocks (500' - 1,250') from the nearest station;
  • if on a sidewalk, minimum pedestrian clearance of 5’ is needed;
  • if on-street, preference for being adjacent or near a bike lane;
  • flat ground;
  • would not block utility access, such as a manhole cover; and
  • would not create a dangerous situation for street users.
