DC Metro - A Worth-It Wait?

Over the past few months, I've been late to play practice. Late to work. Late to almost everything.

Some days, I've had to leave the house an hour earlier to simply get somewhere on time. If, like me, you don't have the luxury of driving your own car so you rely on D.C. public transportation as an alternative, you've probably noticed the recent and frequent metro delays, especially on the weekends. I've been constantly wondering if all this waiting is worth it.

Well, according to the WMATA (Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority) webstie, the inconveniences will pay off. To start with, all their work is totaling $5 billion. Once the "Metro Forward" project is complete, you'll experience over 500 new and enhanced rail cars, new tracks, 600 new buses, and over 150 escalator replaced. Advanced technology will help precisely predict bus arrival times for the "Next bus" program, increase the safety of transportation, and facilitate a smoother ride.

So, for now, take a book with you on the train or grab a Street Sense before you go down the escalator. Try to enjoy your waits, and your patience will be rewarded in the years to come.

In the meantime, I say take Capital Bikeshare! (Although it's a little harder for students, until they reinstall the station at 37th and O).
