We Choose Peace Rally
On behalf of several Sudanese and human rights groups, United to End Genocide invites you to join us in a physical and virtual peace rally for Sudan and South Sudan on July 8 and 9. July 9th marks the one year anniversary of South Sudan which should be a cause for celebration, yet violence on both sides of the border areas of Sudan and South Sudan has displaced hundreds of thousands women, children and men, many of whom now face starvation and continued bombings. Together with dozens of local and national organizations, congregations and community centers, we will augment the voices of the people in Sudan and South Sudan who are saying “We Choose Peace.”
Events will consist of a peace rally on July 8 at Lafayette Square in Washington, DC, as well as a social media campaign that begins in prior weeks and culminates on July 9th, the anniversary of South Sudan’s independence.
June 26-July 8: Join our photo campaign.
In the weeks leading up to the event, people across the world will be adding their voices to the Sudanese peoples’ call for peace through the www.wechoosepeace.org website. The idea is simple: people can take a picture of themselves holding a sign that says “I choose peace in Sudan and South Sudan.” Their pictures can be geo-tagged on a google map to show how far the campaign has spread. Lastly, we are asking for people to share the website and their photo on Facebook or twitter to grow the campaign.
July 9: Participate in our twitter campaign.
On this day, we will be tweeting en masse to UN Ambassador Susan Rice. Organizations around the world will be tweeting to other UN Security Council members as well. The campaign tweet is:
