The healthcare debate- a doggone shame

All the headlines these days in my owner's newspapers are about Obamacare: healthcare.gov isn't working, people are getting termination notices, Congressional hearings gearing up and heads will roll.

But what no one is asking is who will speak out for the dogs that lack healthcare?

Sadly, I lack health insurance.  One hip surgery, seven pulled teeth and a daily prescription steroid habit due to fluid in my ears, I can tell you this was a big mistake.  Friendship Animal Hospital should name a new wing after me with all the money that has come their way.

Why not mandate health insurance for pets? PPOs (preferred pet options) and HMOs (healthy mutt overseers) could provide important coverage when pets have health problems.

Now I've heard some insurance nightmare stories too- my good friend, L* the boxer (her name will be withheld to avoid retaliation by her insurance company), recently developed a heart condition requiring doctor attention and medication. Yet her insurance company, which has been getting paid every year of her seven year life, now will not cover her, citing a genetic condition! Isn't this supposed to be the point of insurance, to cover you when you are sick?

Where is BObama care when you need it?

I ask you, as you weigh in on the healthcare debate occurring, to keep your four legged friends in mind, and consider signing us up as well!

To healthcare for all...
Albie
