The Rev. Dr. Janice E. Mynchenberg has been named interim pastor of Georgetown Lutheran Church, 1556 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Her first services will be at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Mynchenberg specializes in interim ministry and has served several congregations in Wisconsin, Tennessee and Alabama in this capacity. She replaces the Rev. Phillip Gaines, who has moved to Atlanta.
Mynchenberg holds a doctor of ministry degree from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago; a master's of divinity degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio; a master's degree in comparative literature from the University of Oregon in Eugene; and a bachelor's degree in German and French from Wittenberg College.
Mynchenberg grew up in Lake County, Ohio. She met her partner, Diantha Sprouse, while working in Lynchburg, Va.
Mynchenberg has served on synod task forces on domestic violence and on clergy sexual misconduct. She has been certified by the Interim Ministry Network and received specialized training to work with congregations recovering from pastoral misconduct.
A voracious and eclectic reader, Mynchenberg has served on several panels at the annual Wisconsin Convention in Madison, Wis., exploring the intersection of science fiction and religion. Her favorite was on the topic "Is God a Science Fiction Writer?"
