Turkish Airlines Announces Official Sponsorship of International

Women’s Day Celebration and Fundraiser

Proceeds to Benefit Charitable Organizations, N Street Village and Bridge to Türkiye Fund

Washington, D.C. – Turkish Airlines, one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, announced today its official sponsorship of the International Women’s Day celebration and fundraiser. The event is scheduled to take place at the Turkish Embassy Chancery in Washington, D.C. on Friday, March 7, 2014.

During the event, the American Turkish Association of Washington D.C. (ATA-D.C.) and the Bridge to Türkiye Fund (BTF) will honor Mrs. Fügen Tan, wife of Turkish Ambassador Namik Tan, and Mrs. Diana Mayhew, President of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, in recognition of their lifetime achievements.

Mayhew will also serve as keynote speaker that evening. Past recipients of the ATA-DC award include Congresswoman Donna Edwards (2013) and Congresswoman Eleanor Norton Holmes (2012).

To serve the local and international community, funds raised through this event will benefit N Street Village and BTF’s Medine Memi Memorial Fund for Girls’ Education. N Street Village is the largest provider of women-only services for D.C.’s homeless population, helping nearly 1,400 homeless and low-income women each year. BTF’s Medine Memi Memorial Fund for Girls’ Education offers scholarships to girls in some of Turkey’s most remote and impoverished regions. Reception and dinner will be offered by the Turkish Embassy as part of the event.

Turkish Airlines maintains a global network of 243 destinations worldwide, flying to 105 countries, more than any other airline. In January 2014, Turkish Airlines became the Official Airline of the Ivy Life Alumni Network, an all-Ivy business networking community with more than 50,000 members and 30 chapters worldwide.
