Creating Trust in a Fear-Based Environment

When we were children our parents or teachers did their best to connect the dots so we could see an entire picture. Remember puzzles? Where are they today?  We used to sit as a family together and after viewing the complete picture, we would literally break it into a thousand pieces because the sheer joy of puzzles was the process of putting the pieces back together. Do you remember some pieces that no matter how hard you tried to match them the fit was just not right?

Out of frustration you would physically force it to fit and convince yourself that it was the right fit, until further along, another piece didn't fit because of the mismatch. Aargh!  I do miss puzzles but perhaps not. As I continued to grow up, I began to realize life as a big puzzle and on many occasions I placed the wrong piece into a space in my life, fooling myself into believing it would fit. Only to find that later on, I would need it somewhere else!

The more we are able to see an entire story, the better we become in connecting the pieces of life. It deepens a sense of acceptance that all is beneficial and there is an eagerness that percolates inside to allow its emergence. It becomes a sacred flow of life.  At times we get stuck in seeing the pieces, especially the pieces that don't fit where we think they should, and we lose sight of how everything is in Divine order if we only keep the entire story clearly in focus and trust.

The challenge is in where the forced pieces are placed and how that silently pulls us - knocking on the door of our mind saying, "Move me... I don't belong here.”  But, we have convinced ourselves and   attached to the “fact” that we must be right.  As time goes by, we easily forget where the forced piece is located and live in a steady accumulation of fear that as we get closer to some other areas, we just might not be able to keep it all together.  The fear builds to a point that it drives our every thought, word, feeling, deeds, and the vibration we carry into a space.

There are many pieces of fear within our souls and when we are threatened in areas like job insecurity, infidelity in relationships, health concerns, and struggling to trust our politicians to do the right thing, our trust factor, which is a natural innate thermometer, goes cold. If a society of folks has collectively been doing this for centuries, we will eventually approach a period where, deep within the subconscious area of our souls, we know it’s a matter of time until this old system of fooling ourselves and others will end. One of the greatest fears we walk with is to be seen for what we really are when all the masks are off.

So, the decline of trust actually started within ourselves and it amplified in confirming why we should not trust by blaming others; concealing what we think another cannot know; feeling that the other person might hurt us; or thinking that everyone is out for him/herself.  All of this, and more, found a place to hide itself in our subconscious realm of the soul.  Fear began to increase in our interior world of thought, feelings and deeds. Fear is often the manifestation of very deep wounds from our past and they become obvious when threatened. It can be seen by simply observing your reaction when a car cuts you off on the highway. Do you instantly react? Do you honk your horn to let the other driver know that he's a jerk? Do you respond with an unkind gesture or yell through your window calling him names that God would never speak?  Or, do you calmly allow him the right-of-way and just continue on your way?

Someone whom I've driven with on many occasions has revealed to me how deeply fear lives inside the soul because when she's driving and is threatened by another driver, all of the wounds of her past do not remain hidden. I believe she considers herself to be a good and safe driver yet, as an observer of her driving, there seems to be a deep fear lurking inside waiting for the worst to happen. Otherwise, the reaction she has while driving wouldn't be so obvious and fear-based. The irony is that she acts and projects herself to be cool and all together, while deep inside she's a fragile and scared little girl. This also becomes a means to increase mistrust because when we are not authentic to our own true complete picture, the law of the universe will offer the opposite energy that we are forcing to fit into our lives.  As a result, fear will be lurking in our shadows.

Our inner environment of the soul breathes the vibrations of fear and it is up to us, the energy that inhabits the material world, to take the first step to transform that pattern by believing that trust is our greatest thermometer to invite incredible opportunities forward.

Here are some initial steps and questions to ask the self to trigger trust in a fear-based interior environment of our souls.

1.     Acknowledge that there are trust issues;

2.     Identify where those areas of mistrust find fuel to flourish inside;

3.     Ask why you do not trust this person, situation, moment, financial circumstance or yourself. Is there anything you can do to change the situation?;

4.     Ask how you feel when you lack trust in yourself and the world around you?; and

5.     This one is real important - What is trust?

The second part of this exercise is to be able to move into a fearless space and that requires company. If you look around at the various faces and expressions of people, you might draw the conclusion that there is an energy moving everyone. Call it soul, spirit, life force, light - it does exist. This energy can never die, burn, or cut but it will go through changes. From a state of complete order and natural sense of mastery, the energy becomes disbursed and chaotic, creating a lack of self-control and safety. Fear breathes where it senses insecurity.

Accepting that the law of change is apparent in every area of life, is a vital step in shifting the course of fear into a path of truth.  Remember way back when, when we tampered with our truth and forced pieces into our puzzle of life to fit?  We began a chain reaction of mistrust in many areas of our life. We can't keep skimming the surface of self-deception and still walk around wanting everyone and everything to show up authentically when we are not being authentic to ourselves. We must constantly feed renewed thoughts of our eternal truth that transcend religion, cast, race, language and even our own style of doing things, if we ever plan to get out of the interior environment of living in a cycle of fear.

Internal truth must be authenticated by the spiritual work that we do on ourselves every day. Not a day must go by where we don't ask this simple fundamental question, especially when feeling threatened, "How am I feeling at this moment?" When you start to feel safe inside your inner world, you will be able to show up beautifully in the external world where fear inhabits its many disguised forms in every walk of life.  It is here where I invite you to believe in the Supreme Soul of pure energy.

Many names have been given to this incredible force of love and truth.  Our ability to cultivate patterns that increase the source of our capacity to live fearlessly comes from having a companionship with the Supreme Source.  The Source that fuels our souls with sacred experiences of what is true and how truth leads into a natural sense of trusting.  The experiences being captured in your interior world from this companionship are those which are imperishable and need no reason to prove.  They live through a life of trust and fearlessness. When our soul's energy gets into a daily practice of thinking and feeling the pure love and power from the Supreme Source of all that's good and safe, it breathes a champion of trust who lives the mantra, "Everything is beneficial and of this I'm sure!"
